A centre of learning for 1,000 years, Oxford is so much more than the sum of its parts. Almost 40 colleges make up the University. Here, some of the world’s most inventive minds created Alice in Wonderland, the tales of Narnia, Middle Earth, penicillin and of course Inspector Morse. Oxford also gives its name to a colour (Oxford blue), a car, a style of dress and even an accent.
